Publication Open Access Assessing effects of Interest Rates Spread on Non-Performing Loans: A Case of Commercial Banks in Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya(Asian Journal of Economics, Business and Accounting, 2021-07-09) Agwata, Lewis; Simotwo, Peter; Ronald, Martin OnsiroIn the spike of increasing occurrences of non-performing loans among commercial banks in Trans-Nzoia County, Kenya, interest rate spread should be given serious consideration through more empirical research. This study therefore sought establish the relationship between the interest rate spread and occurrence of non-performing loans among commercial banks in Trans-Nzoia County. It specifically; looked into the credit risk management impacts non-performing loans, bank regulation impacts non-performing loans, and the capital sufficiency impacts non-performing loans. Adopting descriptive research design, the study used the 78 employees of commercial banks in Trans-Nzoia County as its targeted. The entire population participated in the study as respondents. Data, which was gathered using a questionnaire, was using quantitative approach to yield descriptive and inferential statistics. Multiple regression analysis was used to draw inferences from the findings. All factors were found to be statistically significant (p,0.05). Thus, credit risk management, bank regulation impacts, and the capital sufficiency have a positive significant effect on non-performing loans among commercial banks in Trans-Nzoia. Adan; Simotwo, PeterSafety of storage facilities also plays an important role in enhancing service delivery in public hospitals. Safety measures ensure both the stock and personnel’s working in the stores are secured from injuries, sabotage, theft and adverse weather conditions. However, at ESCRH, several problems have been experienced in the storehouse of the hospital. Some important items experiences shortages without the knowledge of the store’s personnel. Sometimes items take a long time to be located causing user department to start complaining to the procurement department. A number of pilferages of drugs and theft of important items especially the anti-biotic drugs vindicate have been reported in the hospital, where some staff engaged in ferries and sell essential drugs to private facilities leaving the hospital to suffer an acute shortage of drugs and stand still of its chartered delivery services. In addition, some important store documents find themselves missing due to poor store recording keeping. All these problems affect service delivery in public hospitals in many ways. The study is guided by the following research question; What are the effects of inventory control in enhancing service delivery in public hospitals? The study adopted a descriptive research design where the research will be carried out among various employees in Elwak County Referral Hospital. The sample of the study will constitute 30 employees that is drawn from a population of 100 employees by use of stratified random sampling method. A self-administered questionnaire will be used to collect data from the employees. The stuyd found that 70.80% of respondents agree that Elwak Sub County Referral Hospital experiences under stock situations, 20.80% strongly agreed while only 8.30% disagreed. 62.50% of the respondents agreed that under stock situations causes stoppage of services delivery at Elwak Sub County Referral Hospital while 37.80% strongly agreed. This shows that under stock situations causes stoppage of delivery of services in the hospital to a very great extent. The study found that good inventory control will ensure that the required level of inventory is maintained which ensure continuous supply of items to user departments with minimal instances of shortages which automatically affect service delivery in hospitals. The study recommends the following: adoption of modern inventory control techniques by ESCRH.Publication Open Access Influence of Apples' Competitive Positioning on Performance of Wearable Technology Market in Nairobi County, Kenya(International Research Journal of Business and Strategic Management, 2024-06-24) Suto, Samuel Nyongesa; Simotwo, PeterThis study analyzed the influence of apples’ competitive positioning on the performance of wearable technology market in Nairobi County, Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were to determine the influence of customer service positioning and establish the influence of ecosystem lock-in position on the performance of wearable technology market, Kenya. The study utilized a cross sectional research design. A sample size of 118 respondents was determined from a target population of 177 people using Krejcie and Morgan Table. Questionnaires and interview schedules were used in collecting data. The instruments were tested for reliability using Cronbach’s Alpha while content validity was assessed using expert opinion. The study employed both descriptive and inferential statistics in analysis and used correlation and regression analysis as key analytical models. Results established varied disparities in performance of wearable technology market. Regression results demonstrated that apples’ competitive positioning (customer service positioning, and ecosystem lock-in positioning) had statistically significant influence on performance of wearable technology market. Pearson Correlation Analysis results further demonstrated a positive relationship among customer service positioning, and ecosystem lock-in positioning on performance of wearable technology market. The study recommends more pursuit of apples’ competitive positioning as demonstrated in the Resource-Based View Theory and Porter’s Five Forces Model of apples’ competitive positioning to enhance performance of wearable technology market. Apples’ stakeholders in the market, including industry experts and analysts, distributors of competing technology companies, and apple product distributors within Nairobi County should embrace on the strategies that improves apples’ competitive positioning in order to improve performance of wearable technology market.Publication Metadata only Influence of Teachers’ Socio-Economic Factors on Pupils’ Academic Achievement of Public Primary Schools in Kimilili Sub-County, Bungoma County, Kenya(Himalayan Journal of Education and Literature, 2023-08-26) Wafula, Mary Naliaka; Kirwok, Emily; Simotwo, PeterThe aim of this study was to investigate the influence of socio-economic factors on academic performance in public primary schools in Kimilili Sub County, Kenya. This study was guided by the following objectives: - to establish the influence of parental level of education, to determine the influence of parental level of income, to examine the influence of family size, and to assess the influence of school type on academic performance in public primary schools in Kimilili Sub County, Kenya. Systems Theory of Organizations Development and the Theory of Educational Productivity guided this study. The target population was 3122 people, which comprised grade 8 students, 400 teachers, 50 deputy Headteachers, and 50 head teachers; from a total of 3,122, a sample size of 337 was selected. The researcher used a questionnaire as a method of data collection. The pilot study obtained a coefficient correlation of 0.75. This means that the research instruments were reliable for the study. In this case, the pilot study results showed a correlation coefficient of 0.75 making the questionnaire a reliable tool for data collection. In order to ascertain content validity, the supervisors in the School of Education, department of educational management of Mount Kenya University were consulted to validate the instrument. A letter was obtained for the Department of Education, Mount Kenya University to enable the researcher to get a research permit National Commission of Science Technology and Innovation. The researcher ensured the respondents of their confidentially in dealing with responses. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to make a descriptive analysis to give percentages and frequency distribution that displayed data automatically for reporting on the influence of socio-economic factors on pupils ‘academic performance. The Coefficient of Determination or R square stood at 0.794, which means that about 79.4% of the proportion of total variations in the pupils ‘academic performance was explained by parental level of education, parental level of income, family size, and school type. The study recommends more pursuit of socio-economic factors as confirmed by the two applied theories to enhance pupils ‘academic performance in public primary schools. To realize the full benefits intended by the public primary schools in Kimilili Sub County, the management should ensure that socioeconomic factors that enhance pupils ‘academic performance in public primary schools are embraced.
