Integration of Information Communication Technology (Ict) in The Management Processes of Secondary Schools In Moyale Sub-County, Marsabit County, Kenya.

The heads of secondary schools have many managerial tasks to undertake. Information and communication technology (ICT) is one of the innovations school administrators are utilizing to make transformation in school management. Use of ICTs in management increases management efficiency. The study was designed to investigate the levels of IT integration on managerial processes and its perceived effects on management of Secondary Schools of Moyale Sub County. The study aimed at establishing the extent to which Secondary schools use Information Technology (IT) and whether the same is affected by certain factors. The research design to be adopted is descriptive survey. The target population will be all the 7 Secondary schools in the Sub County. Stratified random and purposive sampling techniques were used to select 5 schools to act as research sites. The head teachers of the 5 schools formed the sample for the study. The study was based on systems theory of organizations developed by Ludwig Von Bertalanffy in the early 1950s which emphasizes the consideration of the relationships between the school and its environment as well as what goes on within the school (http://www.pespmc/rub.ac.be/systheor.html.2009).The systems theory is basically concerned with the problems of relationships of structures as well as interdependence, rather than with constant attributes of objects(http://www.pespmc/rub.ac.be/systheor.html.2009). Thus the way in which the managerial functions Planning, Organizing, Staffing, Decision making, Control, and Communication are executed influences the achievement of school’s goals. As adapted in this study, the system’s theory holds that management actions influence the internal efficiency of a school (Oso and Onen, 2005).The research instruments used to collect data were questionnaires. The data was analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. Qualitative analysis involved narratives and comparisons while quantitative analysis comprised of the descriptive statistics: frequency distribution tables, means, modes and percentages. The study found that majority of the schools in Moyale Sub County had no ICT capacity and also had not incorporated ICT in management processes. The study findings are expected to be of benefit to school managers and policy makers; in that they can contribute to an improvement in management efficiency.
