Impact of staffing on effective curriculum implementation in public Secondary schools in Kigumo sub-county in Murang’a county.

The study aimed at investigating the impact of staffing on effective curriculum implementation in secondary school in Kigumo sub-county in Murang’a County. Understaffing is recognized to affect performance of an individual staff or a group of staff consequently affecting the general functioning of an organization. In Kenya today, the principals of secondary schools have always decried shortage of staff, while the government insisted that the situation is not as bad as the public was being made to understand. The objectives of the study were, to establish the staffing position in Kigumo sub-county secondary schools. To find out the understaffed subjects in secondary schools in the same sub-county. To establish the impact of staffing on effective curriculum implementation in secondary schools. The researcher employed quantitative research design and it targeted secondary schools in Kigumo sub-county whereby 20 schools were involved in the study. The researcher used questionnaires to collect data which was analyzed in tables of frequencies and chart quantitatively. The major findings indicated that there is understaffing in most secondary schools in Kigumo sub-county hence curriculum implementation is seriously hampered. Also most subjects have a seriously understaffing especially compulsory subject. The researcher recommended that there is urgent need to alleviate the shortage of teaching staff by TSC by employing more teachers; in addition the government needs to train, employ more languages and humanities teachers during the recruitment exercise. A similar study on private schools is also recommended. This is because the study excluded private schools.
