Assesment of orphaned and vulnerable children and their accomodation in primary school, Kakamega County.

Abstract

This project endeavours to evaluate the present retention in primary schools of orphaned and vulnerable children in Tande primary school and Namagara primary school. The objective of the project is to evaluate the no. of orphaned and vulnerable children to look at their retention by gender and age. The purpose of the research project is to evaluate and find ways of retaining the orphaned and vulnerable children to school so that they can benefit from the free primary education (F.P.E) this in effect will provide responsible members of the society which effect will assist in achieving the vision 2030. The independent variable in this study is age, gender, extend of class attendance and the degree of vulnerability for example total orphan or partial orphan. This was a qualitative study. The researcher visited the two schools involved and talked to the teachers in the upper classes and explained to them the purpose of the study. He then distributed the questionnaires to them which the researcher collected after the teachers had completed filling them. The researcher used purpose sampling to evaluate the retention or orphaned and vulnerable children by their gender and age.
