Since drought in Isinya District is a common and perennial phenomenon, this study aimed at investigating what impact it has on pupils’ school attendance and learning. The research also aimed at investigating the impact of drought on the learning resources. Although drought influences negatively on vegetation and other natural resources, the impact of drought on the education sector has not been investigated in Isinya District. This study employed a multiphase approach as explained by (Churchill 1991). Such an approach would involve interview schedules, questionnaire survey and piloting which assisted to refine data collection instruments before they are administered. Both qualitative and quantitative data were obtained. The study employed descriptive statistical tools to analyze qualitative data that was obtained from the study. The statistics was used to describe only the group to be observed or sample from which they were derived; summary statistics such as percent, averages, and measures of variability were computed on a particular group of individuals. Tables of frequency distribution were prepared whenever necessary, as well as the percentage concurrency of each of the responses to a particular question. Qualitative data was analyzed by thematic analysis i.e. an analysis of the main theme as required in the study.
