This study seeks to investigate the impact of land clashes caused by the Sabaot Land Defense Forces on the girl child access and competitiveness to primary and secondary education in Chepyuk Ward, Mt. Elgon district. The objective of the study will assess the impact of the land clashes on the girl child education by looking at various areas of enrolment, sexual violence like rape, early pregnancies, school dropouts, displacement that leads to low performance in class, medical conditions and ultimately deaths to the girls. The study adopted the explanatory research design where four secondary schools ( Kapkirwork, Chelebei, St. John’s Chepyuk and St. Teresa’s girls Cheptoror) and more than fifteen primary schools in the ward were sampled purposively. The respondents included the Headteachers, teachers, parents, students and education leaders. The data was collected using Questionnaires, Oral interview schedules and document analysis. The research instruments were piloted in two schools which were not part of the actual study. The data was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using descriptive statistics methods. The frequencies, percentages and mean were used to analyze the data. The analyzed data was then presented in tables, bar graphs and linear graphs. The research will be of great importance as it will bring out the underlying effects of the sabaot Land Defense Forces conflicts and therefore make appropriate recommendations and proposal on how to curb the problems facing the girls. It will also help or propose a similar but wider research to be conducted in areas that are faced by similar conflict so as to elicit more accurate effects of conflicts/war that has lead to low girl’s participation in public primary and secondary schools.en_US
