Abstract
Researchers in educational technology have searched for factors to explain the individuals’ acceptance and resistance to using information communication technology for instruction. This study investigated the challenges facing women in women face in assessing and using Information Technology in universities in Nairobi County. The objectives of the study were to: identify socio-economic and political challenges women face in using and accessing information and communication technologies, identify personal challenges facing women in using and accessing information and communication technologies, and establish the measures that can be taken to overcome the challenges that women face with regard to accessing and using information communication technology. A descriptive survey design was employed and in order to empirically investigate the challenges women face in regard to ICT access and usage, a self administered questionnaire was administered to a sample of 120 women and an interview schedule to six administrators who acted as key informants. The data collected was analyzed using the SPSS computer program version 16. The study revealed that women face challenges such as gender discrimination, lack of administrative support, sexual harassment, negative attitude and lack of interest among others which limits their access and usage of ICT. The study finally recommended on measures that could be taken to address these challenges
