Abstract
The purpose of this study will be to investigate the socio-psychological and emotional issues
affecting learner’s behaviour in secondary schools in Machakos County. The objectives of this
study include: To determine peer influence as a socio-psychological factor that affects students’
behaviour in Machakos County, to determine the school environment in influencing students’
behaviour in Machakos County, to determine drug and substance abuse, emotional coping, and
students’ discipline in Machakos County, to determine the socio-psychological factors and
deviant behaviour among students in Machakos County, and the effects of media on bad
behaviour among students.
The theoretical framework of the research will be based on the self-efficacy theory and the self-
regulatory theory. The researcher will adopt the descriptive study research design. Simple
random sampling will be conducted to ensure equal representation. The study therefore will
target 55 schools whereby all the school head teachers and students will be included in the study.
The major tool to be used for data collection will be the questionnaire. The supervisors will
appraise the validity of the research instruments through pre-testing, while reliability will be
tested through pilot study.
