dc.description.abstract | This study sought to establish the effects of HIV/AIDs on socio-economic activities in Ikutha District, Kitui County. It is based on five research questions; the first one gathered information on the possible causes of HIV/AIDs, the second question established the effects of HIV/AIDs on agriculture, while the third question established the effects of HIV/AIDs on business. The fourth question sought to establish the effects of HIV/AIDs on education, and the fifth and last question, collected suggestions of respondents, on the role government in minimizing the effects of HIV/AIDs. The Literature review for the study focused on previous work done by other scholars and researchers on impact of HIV/AIDS on socio-economic activities. It particularly focused on the concept of HIV/AIDs, the global prevalence of HIV/AIDs, and the impact of HIV/AIDs on socio- economic activities on education, agriculture and business. Through the literature review, the researcher was able to identify knowledge gaps that aided further research. The target population for the study comprised all people infected by the HIV/AIDs in Ikutha District, Kitui County. After examining the data from Community Based Organizations in the District Office, the researcher used simple random sampling to extract names of respondents from the list. Krekjie and morgan table of 1970 was used to arrive at the sample size. The study adopted Descriptive Survey Design (cross- section in particular), with document analysis and questionnaires being the major tool of data collection. Both qualitative and quantitative data was collected and analyzed using statistical computer programs; mainly MS Excel. The results of data analysis were presented using frequency tables, Percentages, charts and graphs. The results from open- ended questions were presented in the form of description-narratives. The findings of the study were then used to provide suggestion and recommendations for action, so as to minimize the spread and effects of the pandemic. | en_US |
