Drug abuse is becoming an increasing problem in Kenya. The researcher sampled nine secondary schools in Mulaani Zone for the study. This study sought to establish the current trend of drug abuse among students in Makueni County secondary schools, and to analyze the strategies used to address the problem. This study was significant to both students and teachers as they developed a common ways of eradicating this problem. This study used Descriptive Survey Design. In view of this, the field survey method was adopted to collect quantitative and qualitative data, using questionnaires and interviews. The targeted population of the study was the 920 form 3s and 4s students in secondary schools in Mulaani Zone and 56 form 3s and form 4s class teachers. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample 20 boys and 20 girls from each school and each form sampled. Purposive sampling was used to sample 36 class teachers. The study used questionnaire and interview guide to collect data. Jeel, (1992), argues that drug users, like other people seek approval for their behaviour from their peers whom they attempt to convince to join them in their habit as a way of seeking acceptance. The finding was significant in that it provided valuable information and ideas which may considerably help to reduce alcoholism in Mulaani zone hence good academic result. This study employed Modified Social Stress Model (MSSM) theory to ensure it remains within the research questions. The theory was developed by Rodes (1988) to examine the effects of drugs. The researcher used tables and percentages to present the findings. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used in data analysis, thus there was a mixed model research design approach to data analysis. The analysis of structured items was mainly done using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS).en_US
