Abstract
The purpose of the study was to establish factors other than geographical environmental, which contribute towards poor performance of pupils in schools located in coffee growing estates of Ruiru District, Kiambu County. Other factors were investigated, these factors include; Poverty among pupils, School administration, Teacher competence commitment and motivation, Presence or absence of resources in the school, Pupils’ attendance punctuality and concentration in studies, Parents’ attitude and support towards education. The researcher used various methods of data collection. First data were collected through individual interviews with learners, educators, Head teachers and parents. Data was also collected through observation such as time management by both learners and teachers and also their behavioral pattern in classrooms. Secondary data was collected through review of publications like journals and magazines, school minutes and reports.
