dc.description.abstractThe study was to investigate and establish why secondary schools in Kathonzweni division MakueniCounty have huge debts and how the debts influence poor academic performance in the division. The study was conducted in Kathonzweni zone in sampled or selected secondary schools to represent others, since it was challenging to visit all secondary schools in the county. It was also investigate factors that significantly contributed to huge debts in secondary schools, investigate procurement and source of fund, management and whether the principals and teachers are trained on funds /financials management in schools. The study was to investigate whether schools do proper budgeting and have income generating activities to supplement what they get from government, donors and student fees. The researcher used a cross section research and questionnaire research methods. The researcher used interviews and focus groups where applicable to collect data. The data was analyzed later and present by use of tables, pie charts and bar graphen_US
