dc.description.abstractThis study intended to establish the impact of child abuse on academic performance in secondary school education. The study was carried out in Butiye Educational zone, Golbo division, Moyale sub-county in Marsabit county of Kenya. The study employed both qualitative and quantitative methods of research. Descriptive survey was specifically used since it attempted to obtain precise information concerning the current status of the study. The study has two variables, the independent variable (child abuse) and the dependent variable (academic performance in secondary school education).The study was carried out in six selected secondary schools out of the eight schools in Butiye zone. The researcher interacted with about ninety (90) students from the selected schools and eighteen (18) teachers. In total the respondents were one hundred and eight (108). The target population consisted of the secondary school teachers and secondary school students from form two and form two. Random sampling was chosen to allow the researcher to select only six schools to participate in the study. The study was based on expectancy theory of Victor Vroom’s (1964) which emphasized on motivation and how it led to behaviour change in relation to environmental factors. The research instruments that was used to collect data was questionnaires. The data was analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The study findings will be crucial to school administrators and policy makers at large.en_US
