Abstract
In the study, the researcher wished to identify the challenges facing learners with physical
handicap in an inclusive setting in Kisii South district, Kisii County The researcher targeted 20
schools and 160 teachers and 1000 pupils. The researcher found out that in Kenyenya district,
Kisii County there exist children with physical handicap and these children do experience many
challenges in an inclusive setting. Among the challenges included stigmatization, discrimination
and unfriendly environment, poor teaching methods, ignorance, and lack of knowledge on the
best intervention measures among many others. From these findings the researcher made the
following recommendations: awareness should be created among learners and the community at
large to develop positive attitude towards those with physical handicap so that to overcome
discrimination and stigmatization. Also the environment should be made friendly by leveling it
and building ramps instead of staircases in order to accommodate these learners with physical
handicap. Teachers should also be trained on Special Needs Education (SNE) so that to acquire
knowledge on the best intervention strategies for these learners. The researcher used
questionnaires to gather information as they were identified to cover a wide area within a short
time. Also the answers given were treated as confidential. The data collected was then analyzed
using tables and percentages then interpreted to give a clear meaning.
