The study investigated the role of learning materials in enhancing the learning of language skills in Weithaga zone Kahuro Sub County in Muranga County. The objectives of the study were, to establish challenges faced by teachers while teaching language skills in lower primary, to investigate the role of learning materials in enhancing of language skills acquisition, to find out the availability of teaching and learning materials that enhance acquisition of language skills and to find out the performance of learners in language skills. The study focused on Weithaga Zone Kahuro Sub County Muranga County. The research design for this study was descriptive survey research design. Teachers handling lower primary classes and head of the institution sampled were the research respondents. Researcher used stratified random sampling so that she could get wide representation of the population in all schools involved. Data was collected using structured questionnaire. Data collected was tabulated in tables, charts, and graphs which gave a picture on the role of learning materials in enhancing learners’ language skills in lower primary. The major findings of the study were: only 10.5% of the teacher has adequate teaching and learning materials and little is considered by the head teachers in provision of the materials. According to 92.11% of the respondents teaching and learning materials pays a major role in enhancing language skill acquisition. The major challenges faced by teachers in teaching language skills in lower primary are lack of teaching and learning materials, lack of prior knowledge of language skills and lack of exposure to language skills.
