Impact of riots and strikes on academic performance in secondary schools in Murang’a sub –county, Murang’a county

The study will purpose on the impact of riots and strikes on academic performance in secondary schools in Murang’a Sub –County. These study findings will be of importance to promote good relationship among the school community and emphasize dialogue as a way of solving stalemate situations arising from misunderstanding between students and administrators. The researcher is concerned by the increased violence and outburst rocking secondary schools in Murang’a and tries to look for a solution to save the future generation and leaders. The study can help the Ministry of Education (M.O.E) better understood the current situation and accordingly make changes to address the factors that contribute to riots and strikes in secondary schools. The study also will be important to educationalists and researchers interested in finding out the impact of riots and strikes on the academic performance. The finding of this study will be useful to future researchers on a similar topic. Kidder and Judd (1986) define a sample as a group of elements which is thought to be representative of the larger population from which the findings can be used for generalization. Simple random sampling will be used for selecting the students from the target population. The researcher will use a sample size of two hundred respondents. The simple sampling will be used in order to give each student, teacher and parents an equal opportunity to be selected. Five form 2 students, five form three students, ten form four students, five teachers, and five parents of public secondary schools will be randomly sampled from each of five secondary schools within Murang’a sub-county.
