Abstract
There has been great concerns on the rising levels of drug abuse in secondary schools. Drug and substance abuse is becoming an increasing problem in Kenya. A number of studies carried out in the country show that almost every Kenyan youngster at one time or another experiments with drugs especially beer and cigarettes. The main purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of drug abuse on the academic performance in Kahuro Sub-County of Murang'a County. Survey design was used for research study. It also incorporated both qualitative and quantitative research. The research work has established that abuse of drugs in schools in rampant leading to serious academic effects. Some of the students who engage in drug abuse activities lack proper guidance from both parents and teachers and both parties don`t work hard in hand to stop the problem. The research recommends that youth should be given attention and they should be enlightened on drug abuse and on its effects on academic performance.
