Factors contributing to child abuse and neglect in primary Schools in Limuru district in Kiambu county.

The purpose of this study was to investigate factors contributing to child abuse and neglect in primary schools in Limuru District, Kiambu county. Specifically, the study focused on the following specific objectives: to determine whether parental socio-economic status contribute to child abuse, to determine the measures the parents and government institutions should take to curb child abuse and to determine the effects of child abuse in primary schools in Limuru District ,Kiambu county. The study concentrated on the factors contributing to child abuse in primary schools and how this lead to other social problems in future like strikes, aggression, drug abuse and early sexual behaviours.The study will help the government to come up with policies that can protect children from abuse. This study was based on psycho sexual theory whose major proponent was Sigmund Freud .In this theory it is believed that behaviors’ can be traced to events and experiences in early childhood. Key findings of this study suggest that child abuse is a terrible thing .In the society there are many conditions that makes parents and other adults more likely to abuse children yet despite the collective revulsion child abuse and the fact that the society is aware of contributing conditions to child abuse the rate of abuse continue at a terrifying high level of abuse more so in Limuru District Kiambu County. This study used survey methods, 11 schools will be sampled using random sampling techniques from the three zones in the district. From the sampled schools 60 children will purposefully selected both from public and private schools, 30 teachers and 10 parents. Data was be collected using questionnaires for pupils ,group discussions and interview schedules fir both teachers and parents .Data collected will be analyzed thematically i.e. by use of frequencies, percentages graphs and pie charts. Recommendations will be made for attention to be give these factors by all educational stakeholders. Directions was suggested for future research on child abuse and neglect.
