Abstract
The central problem of this study was that despite discipline being a pre- requisite for the success of any school, indiscipline cases have been on the rise. The school investigated was a three- streamed boy’s school called yatta high school in yatta district. This study was based on classical theoretical framework by Lunenburg (1992) which asserts that student leaders must have authority in order v for them to perform their duties effectively . Questionnaires and interviews were used to collect data. Data was analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively and presented in from of frequency tables. A total of 70 students , student leaders , 10 teachers and 5 deputy principal were conducted for the study. The study finding indicated that the role of student leaders in discipline management should be redefined to avoid conflict amongst the students and student leaders. The study will be of immediate benefit in formulating policies governing management systems will enlighten secondary school management on how they can improve prefects performance in management of discipline in school. Lastly, the study will lead to the improvement of the implementation of effective and efficient management system in secondary schools The study employed a descriptive survey study school administration should consult with prefects before making major decisions that affect the students . the principal and teacher should always try to hold meeting with prefects and update them on all issues affecting the students. The study findings may be utilized but the ministry of education (MOE) KENYA Education management institute(KEMI) head teachers board of management(BOM) PARENTS TEACHERS ASSOCIATION(PTA) and other stakeholder for effective implementation of school administration initiatives and strategies.
