To investigate the effects of drug abuse on the performance of students in secondary schools in Mbooni District, Makueni county, Kenya

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of drug abuse on the performance of students in secondary schools in Mbooni District, Makueni County Kenya. The study intended to use the following variables: parental modeling, parental social control and teachers’ creation or maintenance of conducive school environment. In the study, a sample of thirty percent (30%) of all secondary schools in Mbooni District was interviewed. The study used students’ questionnaire and teachers’ interview schedule as instruments for data collection. Data collected was analyzed using both the descriptive and inferential statistics. In this regard, frequencies, percentages and the pie-charts were applied. The study took the form of an ex-post-facto research design by exploring the state of affairs the way they exist among the secondary school form three students in Mbooni District, Makueni Count Albert bandura’s social learning theory and piaget’s cognitive theory will be used as theoretical framework to guide the study. The study findings from the study added more information to the current database on drug use which will promote ways of combating the menace by school administrations and the general public.
