Abstract
In this research, the researcher was investigating on the factors contributing to school drop out of learners with hearing impairment in Mwingi Zone Mwingi central district. The researcher used approach method so as to gather enough and detailed information. The researcher used questionnaire as the tool to collect information. Information from the analysed data shows that most of the head teachers are male. It also shows that most schools are under understaffed and very few teachers who are trained in special education needs in the zone. The budgetary allocation in the schools by the F.P.E is wanting due to poverty rate in the Zone the parents are not willing to contribute extra coins to school accounts. Information also shows that the Zone is lacking support services and that is due to lack of awareness, learners who are hearing impaired suffered stigmatization and lack of love from parents, teachers and other pupils. Teachers recommend that the government should employ more teachers to curb shortage and also offer free training for teachers in special needs. The government should also reduce the fees for teachers training in special education so that the learners needs will be carted for. The researcher also appeals to the government to motivate teachers teaching in special schools by paying them extra allowances to boost their morale. The researcher also feels that more special units should be introduced in most public primary school. At last the researcher feels that some organizations would assist in areas like providing hearing aids, food, teaching and learning materials for the learners.
