The purpose of the research was be to determine the factors that influence form two boys and girls in their selection of subject in Limuru zone Kiambu County. Little has been done in relation to the factors determining the choice of subjects among secondary school students. The purpose of this research is therefore to determine the factors that influence form two boys and girls in their selection of subjects in Limuru zone Kiambu County. The research objectives of this study were: To establish the influence of individual factors on form two boys and girls subject choice in Limuru Zone Kiambu |County, To determine how school factors influence secondary school students choice of optional subjects in Limuru Zone Kiambu County, To establish the influence of social-economic factors on secondary school students in choice of subjects in Limuru Zone Kiambu County. The researcher adopted a descriptive survey study where factual information on current practices and conditions were gathered. The target population for this study was ten public secondary schools in Limuru zone Kiambu County. Five schools were chosen from the ten public schools in Limuru Zone Kiambu County. In a school with more than one stream, one stream was chosen to represent the entire school. The researcher employed the following research instruments in collection of data during the study: questionnaire, focus group discussion. Descriptive statistics were used in data analysis. There research questions were formulated to guide in the study. Research question one sought to find out how the individual factors influenced the choice of subjects of form two boys and girls; Research question two wanted to establish the extent to which school factors influenced secondary students in choice of subjects; Research question three aimed at establishing how the social economic factors influenced secondary school students in choice of subjects. Eight questions were formulated to guide in the study. Question one sought to find out what in informed was provided to guide them in their choices of subjects; Question two wanted to establish the extent to which gender of the students influence him/her in the choice of subjects; Question three aimed at establishing how the parents/guardians of education and occupation influence students choices; Question four wanted to establish if there was a relationship between guardians occupation and selection of subjects choices of their children; Question five investigated the challenges faced by boys and girls in the selection of subjects. Question six sought to establish whether family background influences students in their selection of subjects; Question seven wanted to establish how peer socialization influences students in their choices of subjects and finally; Question eight wanted to establish if the students are influenced in their selection of subjects by their performance in the subjects. The study wishes to recommend that students should be provided with adequate information on the importance of the subjects that they take in school. There should be professionally trained career teacher counsellor in all schools. Since career counselling has been found to be effective in guidance of students. There is need for involvement of parents in the education of their children.
