An investigation on the effectiveness of teaching HIV/AIDS in secondary schools in Mukothima zone, Tharaka Nithi County.

Abstract

The human immune deficiency virus (HIV) is a virus that causes the acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) and is mainly found in the body fluids. Such as blood semen, vaginal secretions and breast milk. The most common ways of transmitting HIV are through sex, sharing of needles and sharing equipment such as razors which could have blood on it. The objective of the study is to determine the effectiveness of teaching HIV/AIDS education in Mukothima zone in Tharaka district schools. The review of the literature involves the systematic identification, location and analysis of documents containing information related to the research problem being investigated. In the literature review research will look on the overview of HIV/AIDS, disease progression, factors leading to HIV infection, cure and treatment, the role of education in relation to HIV/AIDS and challenge of HIV/AIDS education. The study design is descriptive and inferential statistics and it will be done in different secondary schools in Mukothima Zone, Tharaka district. The research targets head teachers and teachers from different secondary schools Mukothima zone, Tharaka district. This study will cover 20% of the targeted population in different secondary schools in mukothima zone. The data collection method will be; interviews, questionnaires and documentary and also literature review. In order to obtain maximum data for the research both secondary and primary source for data collection will be essential.
