Abstract
The study was carried to investigate the effects of effects of insecurity on education in Rhamu. Mandera County. The study was guided by the following objectives to assess the prevalence of insecurity in Rhamu, Mandera County, to assess the school attendance of learners in Rhamu, Mandera County and too assess how insecurity in Rhamu, Mandera County has affected education sector. The study used survey design where simple random sampling was used to select respondents who were parents and teachers of schools located in Rhamu, Mandera. Questionnaires were used to collect data which will be analysed quantitatively using Microsoft Excel software and organized into frequency tables and presented into pie charts and bar graphs. The study found out that majority of gender most affected by insecurity were males the reason being, men are the ones responsible with family security. The age bracket most affected was 41- 50 and 31-40 years the most productive age brackets and so target of terrorists. According to the study the people in the area of study had average academic level with majority have a diploma of college certificate. The average monthly income was neither too high or too low it was there at an average indicating moderate social economic status. Majority of people in the area of study had experienced issues of terrorism some even to more than 10 times. This means that almost every part of the county experience insecurity. Majority were in agreement that insecurity always had an impact on education though there were those who felt it rarely or not at all had anything to do with education. The impact is confirmed by parents as they were forced to retain their children at home for safety. The study also found out that insecurity can be best controlled by good neighborhood collaborations. And the national government plus school administrations that would make sure that once the child is in school he/she is safe. There should be assured that they are safe in order to concentrate on education they together with their teachers
