Investigating factors contributing to poor performance in English language in Mukaa Division, Mukaa Sub-county, Makueni county

Abstract

The purpose of this study will be to investigate the factors influencing poor performance in English at the KCSE in Mukaa Sub-County,Makueni County, Kenya. The study will be guided by the following objectives: to establish how the teaching techniques employed in teaching the English affects the students’ performance, to determine how the content of the English syllabus influence the performance of English at KCSE level and to establish the extent to which internal assessment of English influences performance of English. The study will adopt the descriptive survey method of research. The target population will be public secondary schools in Mukaa Sub- County. The target population of this study will be 23 schools, 41 teachers of English and 690 students. Questionnaires will be used as the research instruments. There will be questionnaires for the teachers of English and students. The data collected will be analyzed using the descriptive statistics
