dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to find out the effects of motivation on academic performance in secondary schools in Nzaui Sub County, Makueni County. It also purposed on the strategies and measures teachers are using to enhance motivation in secondary schools and also on the challenges facing motivation in secondary schools in Nzaui Sub County, Makueni County. It also purposed on benefiting all the stakeholders in the ministry of education in preparation of strategies that would cater for motivation of both learners and teachers in secondary schools in Kenya as whole. Simple random sampling was used for selecting the students from the target population. The researcher used a sample size of two hundred respondents. The simple sampling was used in order to give each student, teacher and parents an equal opportunity to be selected. Five form 2 students, five form three students, five form four students, five teachers, 2 M.O.E representatives and five B.O.G Members were randomly sampled from each of five secondary schools within Nzaui Sub County. The researcher used this procedure because it had no discrimination and therefore all had equal chances of being used as the sample population so it was a fair procedure. The main instrument that will be used by the researcher to collect data will be questionnaire. The questions will be designed in such a way that the effects of motivation on education are fully assessed. The questionnaire will comprise of the demographic data; effects of motivation on academic performance in secondary schools, strategies and measures the ministry of education is using to enhance motivation in secondary schools, challenges facing motivation in secondary schools and whether schools in Nzaui Sub County in Makueni County receive any kind of support to improve motivation. The researcher will use an observation checklist to collect information on the effects of motivation on academic performance in secondary schools. It will also provide first- hand data generated by the observation checklist to enhance validity of data that will be collected.en_US
