Effects of Drug Abuse on The Academic Performance in Upper Primary Schools in Njoro District, Nakuru County.

Abstract

This research project is a study designed to determine the factors associated with drug abuse among primary schools and how they affect the academic performance of upper primary schools students. The main objective of this study was to determine the reasons why upper primary schools students in Njoro District Nakuru County abuse drugs and how those drugs affects their results. It also aimed at mitigation control, and curative measures to the problem of drug abuse in the District. The results were generalized for other students in other schools and in the Republic. The study targeted all upper primary schools in Njoro District Nakuru County. The study proposed to use stratified methods of sampling the respondents involved in the research study. A total of 300 students (165 girls and 135 boys ) and 12 teachers were selected from the upper primary schools in the District. This study used face to face interview and telephone interviews in some far schools with the students and teachers in selected schools. Open and close ended questionnaires were prepared and given to the teachers and students in the schools. The study also used some case studies especially of known drug abusers in the schools and the rehabilitation centre in the District.
