    Abstract
    The purpose of this study was to analyze the role of academic guidance and counseling in secondary schools in Mwala sub-county, Kenya. The study was guided by the following objectives: Determine the extent to which provision of guidance and counseling materials, teacher counselors’ exposure, peer training, guest speakers and the time allocated to students counseling influenced students’ academic performance in Mwala Sub County, Kenya. The study adopted the descriptive survey method of research. The target population was public secondary schools in Mwala Sub-County. The target population of this study was 25 schools, 25 teacher counselors and 144 form 4 students. Questionnaires were used as the research instruments. There were questionnaires for the teachers of Guidance and Counseling and students. Data was analyzed using frequencies and percentages and presented in tables and conclusions drawn
