Assessment on factors hindering women empowerment in education in Kandara sub-county, Muranga county.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Kenyan women comprise 52 percent of the population (according to 2009 national census) and 60 percent of the country's registered voters but are represented in very limited numbers as elected officials. The dominance of patriarchic structures in Kenyan politics and society is well illustrated by the low number of women among the top government positions for example members of parliament. This research examined the effects of civic education (CE) on women’s political participation in Kandara Division in Murang’a county-Kenya mainly political knowledge. Results of the study seek to reveal that the majority of respondents support women’s political participation in public life in the society. Also, women’s supports the right of women to have equal educational opportunities, as well as equal participation in civil societies, volunteer societies, and political participation. The following objectives guided the study: to carry out a research on assessment on factors hindering women empowerment in education in Kandara Sub- County,Muranga County, to determine causes of early pregnancy hindering women empowerment towards education in Kandara Sub-County,Muranga County,to examine the factors leading to low transition from primary to secondary hindering women empowerment in Kandara Sub-County,Muranga County and to determine poverty cases hindering women empowerment towards education in Kandara Sub-County,Muranga County. The Research design to be employed in this study was descriptive survey design. The researcher used simple random and simple stratified sampling techniques. This design was adopted because the target population is known and the variable under study was easily obtained through questionnaire. The data was organized and analyzed in ms excel and statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The results were then presented by use of graphs and tables or even pie charts where necessary. The study was carried out at period of 4 weeks at a budget ksh8400.
