| dc.description.abstract | Parental involvement in education in Kericho County is mainly limited to financial contributions
and teacher-parent meetings. Given the high cost of education and the need to improve quality of
education, parental involvement is important. This study therefore sought to find out if parental
involvement in their children’s education is important, to establish the roles of a teacher in
educating the child, to expose the effects of parental involvement in the education of their children
and to find the reasons why parents neglect their responsibilities and how to solve this problem.
The study was based on a literature study to investigate existing programmes and models of
parental involvement in schools as well as legislation as pertaining to parental involvement. A
qualitative design that made use of Epstein’s model of parental involvement (Epstein Theory of
parenting was used to examine parental involvement practice in schools in Kericho. Accordingly, a
qualitative approach within purposefully selected schools study was conducted. This study
collected data using methods such as questionnaires, interview and observation, analyze and
interpret the data, present the data and finally providing pertinent solutions to the problem. The
collected data was analysed and it was found out that: The study found out that the various
preschool activities that parents participate included; meeting attendance, communication with the
school and volunteering influenced the academic performance of the children in schools. The
research concludes that every parent should be involved in the education of their children at home
and at school by prioritizing their time to help their children attain better grades and performance. | en_US |
