This study was carried to establish the effects of teachers’ attitude towards pupils’ academic performance. It was guided by a number of objectives which were to examine the factors that affected teachers’ competences in teaching, motivation of teachers and factors for poor pupils’ academic performance. The study concentrated in Kyaani Zone in Matinyani Sub-county, Kitui County. The study focused on teachers to determine the impact of their attitude towards pupils’ academic performance, since the zone examination results kept on falling year by year. Questionnaires were issued out and random interviews were also conducted on the selected sample of 50 respondents. The findings of the study showed that teachers’ attitudes had a number of effects on academic performance of pupils in Kyaani Zone. Teachers’ attitudes were thought to affect teachers’ competences and motivation. The researcher used questionnaires on selected sample of 50 respondents from 10 primary schools in Kyaani Zone name; Kyaani, Kauma, Kwa-Musyimi, Kyeni, Kavumbu, Maseki, Kitumbi, Kyambevo, Kathuma and Kitunduni Primary School. The research showed that in order to improve pupils’ performance in Kyaani Zone, teachers attitude had to be positive and government, Ministry of Education, school administration and parents had to establish systems to monitor how their teachers exercised their duties in schools to improve on pupils’ performance. Data was analyzed using tables, percentages and graphs.
