Management of learners with emotional and behavioral difficulties in primary schools of Butere District Kakamega county.
Abstract
This study focused on the management of learners with emotional and behavioural difficulties in
Butere Mumias District in Kakamega County. The study was guided by literature review that
emphasized on the extent of this emerging problem not only in Butere District of Kakamega
County but also elsewhere in the Republic of Kenya and worldwide in educational practices
OBJECTIVES
The study was guided by the following four objectives:
To establish the prevalence and nature of emotional and behavioural difficulties among
learners in primary schools.
To find out the skills and techniques used by teachers to manage learners identified with
emotional and behavioural difficulties in primary schools.
To establish the special trainings and support given to teachers in management of
emotional and behavioural difficulties.
To determine the causes of emotional and behavioral difficulties in schools.
The study used a survey design that targeted teachers in public primary schools as the population
sample. The study came up with the following major recommendations to educational managers
and policy makers on how to manage learners with emotional and behavioral difficulties in
primary schools. More teachers trained in Special Needs Education
Provision of differentiated curriculum
More Guidance and Counseling trainings
The study findings will also be used as a reference by future researchers.
