Library security vs impending terrorist attacks: a case study of Mount Kenya University

Abstract

A collection of sources of information and resources made accessible to a defined user community thus providing physical or digital access to physical building or room, virtual space or both. Terrorist can as well be library patrons who employ political weapon often using religion to cover up on their terrorist activities. The academic library by its objective nature of meeting the needs of community users brings about research and resource sharing enabled by technological innovations. Security is becoming a global basic demand due to increased terrorism attacks. Due to high demand of information in this information age and its dynamic change security for the same lays supreme. Security starts not when the attacks arise but preventive measures should be put in place prior to it. This study intends to establish the library security measures applied in case of terrorism in academic libraries.it also aims at increasing the confidence of users on the field of research.it will also cover practical steps Mount Kenya University has undertaken in library security impending terrorism The study targets three Mount Kenya University campuses namely, Mombasa, Malindi and Virtual campuses. Random sampling technique will be used for data collection. Respondents will be required to fill questionnaires. The targeted sample population is three hundred users out of population of three thousand users. This study intends to reveal that there are library security impending terrorist attacks in Mount Kenya University.
