An assessment of the impacts of drug abuse among the students in selected secondary schools in Masinga sub county

Abstract

A health society is a strong base for the development of its social, political and economy. Thus there is the need to ensure that the members are protected from all forms of deeds that can lead to death as a result of drug abuse, prostitution, domestic violence and inadequate personnel in industries and institutions hence the researcher had to investigate the impacts of drug and substance abuse to the secondary schools in Masinga sub county, reasons for increased case of drug abuse as well as the interrelationship between the abuse and general academic performance to school. Despite the free primary and secondary education in Kenya there are a number of cases of school dropout in Masinga Sub County as a result of drug abuse especially smoking of bhang and tobacco. Purposive sampling was used to select 10 secondary schools and simple random sampling method to get a sample size of student respondents. A questionnaire was used to get information from teachers and students from the selected schools in Masinga Sub County. Reliability and the validity were effected by having a piloting exercise. Data analysis was calculated through inferential descriptive statistics. Chapter three highlights the procedure of data presentation.
