Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the head teachers‟ effectiveness in resource management in
public primary schools in Kitui central District, Kitui County. The objectives of the study were: to
determine the influence of head teachers‟ management training on effectiveness in resource
management, to assess the influence of head teachers‟ professional experience on effectiveness in
resource management, to determine the influence of District Education office on head teacher‟s
effectiveness in resource management, schools and to investigate the influence of parents‟
participation on effectiveness of head teachers‟ in resource management in public primary schools.
The study adopted descriptive survey design with both qualitative and quantitative data analysis
approaches. The target population of the study included all the head teachers and committee
chairperson of the 71 public primary schools in Kitui central district in Kitui County. The
questionnaires and interview schedule were used as the main research instruments. Both descriptive
and inferential statistics were used in data analysis. The mean, median, mode and percentages were
used to analyze the data in order to meet the objectives of the study. Frequency tables were used to
represent the data followed by data interpretation and findings. Correlations and Analysis of variance
was used to test the relationship between independent and dependent variables. The findings from this
are that the head teachers‟ training influences resource management to a very large extent and there is
a very strong relationship between management training and effectiveness in resource management in
primary schools, the experience of a head teacher is very necessary in resource management, and DEOs
office influence school head teachers resource management and the parents participation in resource
management influences resource management to a great extent. Further research can be done on; the
influence of KEMI training on Head teachers‟ resource management, the influence of Head teachers‟
resource management on pupil performance in KCPE, the influence of Head teachers‟ resource
management on school physical facilities, and effect of DQASO visits on head teachers resource
management.
