Implications of HIV AIDS on performance in secondary schools in Kaloleni Constituency In Kilifi County.

Abstract

HIV/AIDS pandemic is a disaster that is continuing to disrupt many sectors of the country’s economic growth and development. Among those sectors are the education and approximately 1.5 million Kenyans die of HIV/AIDS yearly. Among those affected and die include parents, curriculum developers, teachers and students. The objectives of the study are to determine the effects of HIV/AIDS on performance in secondary schools in Kaloleni constituency, Kilifi County. With a sample of ten secondary schools that the study will use the raw data obtained will be analyzed and presented in form of pie charts and tables. The researcher will use questionnaires and interviews to collect information with permission from parents and head teachers. The study is expected to find out that majority of schools in Kaloleni constituency Kilifi County perform poorly academically due to the fact that most students and teachers are infected with HIV/AIDS and the effects of the disease is the main factor behind this poor performance. The study proposes that all stakeholders in education sector should come up with suitable measures to help curb the disease. The study is going to recommend that schools develop the policies on HIV/AIDS through intensifying counseling and testing, role modeling, punishment to those who expose themselves to irresponsible sexual behavior and sufficient sensitization on HIV/AIDS through awareness and campaigns
