Investigation on effects of the increase of drug abuse on students performance in Nzangathi zone, Nzambani sub-county; Kitui county.

This study is an evaluation research that is focused on effects of increase in drug abuse on students performance in Nzangathi Zone, Nzambani sub-county; Kitui county. The study was carried out in February through March. The study was seeking to investigate what effects do increased drugs and substance abuse had on students academic performance, factors that influenced secondary school students to abuse drugs and other substances, the gender which was mostly affected by drug abuse in Nzangathi zone Nzambani Sub-County in Kitui county. The study also aimed at establishing and suggesting intervention measures to prevent or extirpate drugs and substance abuse by students in. Drugs and substance abuse was a global problem and was one of the major problems affecting the discipline of high school students which in turn affected their academic performance. The study adopted survey method where a combination of procedures as questionnaires, interviews and observations was applied in an attempt to collect the schools and respondents as samples from a total of 18 secondary school. The researcher used various data tools or instruments such as questionnaires for secondary students and interviews for school principals as well as observation of certain behaviours. The data collected was analyzed by use of SPSS as well as tables where it was arranged in rows and columns and converted into percentages. Bar graphs were drawn to show proportional relations between quantities in each sector present. The analyzed data provided useful information for decision making by school management Boards. Ministry of education science and technology (MOEST) as well as a stepping block for future researchers. The study embraced high ethical standards which ensured the quality of research was not compromised
