Assessing the factors contributing to poor academic Performance in public ECDE center in Daiga zone.

Abstract

This study focused on the factors contributing to poor academic performance in public ECDE centres in Daiga zone of Laikipia East District. The research adopted the survey research design and targeted all the public ECDE centres in Daiga Zone of Laikipia East District. The respondents were sampled through simple random sampling techniques. The data was collected mainly using questionnaires scheduled ad interviews schedules. The researcher found out that the major factors contributing to poor academic performance public ECDE centres in Daiga Zone of Laikipia East District were inadequate teachers, inadequate teaching/learning resources, poverty, disabilities and the HIV-Aids scourge. The data was analyzed using statistics such as the averages, tables, pie charts ad bar graphs. The researcher therefore recommended that the government of Kenya moves with speed and the employ teachers, donors to actively take up the role of providing resources in the public ECDE centres, extreme poverty in Daiga zone be addressed quickly and the society to participate in equipping ECDE centres in order to make them have the capacity to handle the early childhood education.
