Publication: Effectiveness of free primary education in curbing pupils’ Dropout in primary schools in Mumela Zone, Mukaa District.

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of free primary education in curbing pupil’s dropout rate in primary schools in Mumela Zone Mukaa District. The schools were grouped into three clusters namely Mumela, Kithina and Mburu. This was according to the school activities. Those schools carry together. A sample of 8 primary schools in the zone was used. The researchers concern was the dropout rate before and after the introduction of FPE, the techniques used to instill discipline of the over aged and indisciplined pupils, methods used to teach the overaged and indisciplined pupils and how the FPE through the government has managed to curb pupils dropout rate. The researcher used quantitative approach and survey design. Questionnaires were used to gather information and present, analyse and interpret data using tables and figures. The researcher found that there has been a big improvement in pupil’s dropout rate since the introduction of FPE. Also teachers have devised methods to manage the discipline and learning of overaged and indisciplined pupils. The researcher suggested that parents should work hard in hand with the school to curb any school dropout. The government should continue funding schools to establish enough learning facilities of the increasing population of pupils. Workshops and seminars should be attended by all groups for enrichment of ideas to enable the community to become more productive and to uplift the standards of education in the community.
