dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of management strategies used by school managers to improve KCPE performance in Low Cost Boarding primary schools. This study had the following objectives, to evaluate the effectiveness of close supervision on improving KCPE performance in low cost boarding primary schools in Turkana North Sub-County, to examine the effectiveness of provision of conducive environment on improving KCPE performance in low cost boarding primary schools in Turkana North Sub-County and to establish the effectiveness of provision of adequate learning materials on improving KCPE performance in low cost boarding primary schools in Turkana North Sub-County. This study adopted descriptive survey research study design. The target population for this study was school head teachers of the Low Cost Boarding primary schools in Turkana North Sub-County. The study employed simple random sampling technique to select the sample population where ten low cost primary schools were selected from the entire population (20). Data for this study was collected using interview schedule guide and document analysis. The research interview schedules guides were piloted on a sample of 3 (three) Low Cost Boarding primary schools in Turkana West Sub-County and the validity and reliability of the instrument was determined. On validity of instruments, the researcher used content validity while comparing with a Cronbach’s Alpha Coefficient of 0.7 on reliability. Quantitative data was analyzed by descriptive statistics by use of frequency counts, percentage. The major findings showed that majority of respondents cited teamwork, adequate learning materials, open discussions, early syllabus coverage, teachers motivation as tools for better performance in the school. This study recommended the following: Head teachers should use the most appropriate management strategies that facilitates collective responsibility which creates a conducive teaching and learning environment in schools, there is need for facilitating head teachers management strategies as they have a direct relationship with pupils’ academic performance and the community. | en_US |
