Abstract
The purpose of this research was to find the impact of project monitoring and evaluation on project sustainability in Rwanda. It was carried out in Sustainable Health Enterprise in Kimironko sector as the case study with the following objectives; to find the procedures used in project monitoring and evaluation, to examine the factors necessary for project sustainability and to identify the impact of project monitoring and evaluation on project sustainability. The researcher reviewed literature related to project monitoring and evaluation, project sustainability and the impact of project monitoring and evaluation on project sustainability. The researcher adopted both descriptive and analytical research design based on quantitative and qualitative data while the population of the research was 72 employees of Sustainable Health Enterprise project. The sample size was 61 employees of the project selected using simple random sampling technique. For data collection, the researcher used questionnaires and interviews for primary data while documentary review was used for secondary data. The researcher used tables and figures for data presentation while frequencies and percentages for analysis and interpretation. The researcher found out that monitoring and evaluation carried out in sustainable health enterprise is contribution a lot to the project sustainability, the project is sustainable because all the contents of monitoring and evaluation lead to sustainability, the project carries out monitoring and evaluation after a short period of time and is therefore capable of checking and rectifying all the challenges that may affect sustainability of the project. The researcher concluded that there is a positive impact between project monitoring and evaluation and project sustainability and that monitoring and evaluation in the project has led to improving sustainability levels, satisfaction of the beneficiaries, attainment of the project objectives, uninterrupted operations and the project has become more reputable. The researcher recommended that the government of the Republic of Rwanda should sensitize all the projects in Rwanda on the importance of project monitoring and evaluation in as far as sustainability is concerned.
