22nd Graduation Booklet

Abstract

It is with great pleasure and honour that I join you at this momentous occasion of the 22nd Graduation Ceremony of Mount Kenya University under the theme of “Higher Education as a Factor for Reduced Inequalities.” Looking through the events that are taking place across the world today, glaring inequalities are so evident. Universities are called to contribute towards ending these inequalities through their triple-mandate of teaching, research and community engagement. More specifically, every university must contribute towards creation of awareness of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 and ensure all university activities are directed towards the achievement of the SDGs. I congratulate MountKenya University on having been bestowed upon the responsibility of serving as the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) Hub for SDG No. 10 on Reduced Inequalities. This is an achievement which comes with a lot of responsibilities and expectations on what the university ought to institutionalize to succeed in this mandate. Mount Kenya University has mplemented programmes that support the SDGs 2030 and in so doing, contributes towards ending inequalities through capacity-buildingin health sciences, in education, ICT, engineering and energy production, gender and persons living with disabilities, among others.
