dc.description.abstractThe Administrator is the pivot around which many aspects of the school revolve, being the person in charge of every detail of the running the school, be it academic or administrative functions within the school environment. The purpose of carrying out this study was to examine the challenges faced by schools administrators’ in the implementation of subsidized education in public secondary schools in Mombasa district. The specific objectives for the study were; to establish the effectiveness of subsidized education in public secondary schools in Mombasa district, to examine the challenges faced by school administrators’ in the implementation of subsidized education and to establish some of the possible solutions to the challenges. Descriptive research design was used in this study. Purposive sampling was also used to draw up a sample size of seven out of the thirteen public schools in the district. Questionnaires were used as instruments for collecting data from the principals and head of departments. Validity of the instruments was done through experts in research and piloting. Reliability was tested by subjecting the instruments to a pilot study through the split-half techniques and then spearman brown prophesy formula was used to compute a reliability coefficient which was established at 0.98. The data collected was processed and analyzed using SPSS package and output in Microsoft Word 2010. The findings revealed that the implementation of subsidized secondary education in Mombasa district faced many challenges which are attributed to high enrollment, High drop-out rate, Low transition rate and inadequate funds among others. To that effect, increased funding of schools was the remedy to the challenges. Based on the study findings, the study recommended for increased funding of the programme as such would drive to alleviate the said challenges. Main challenges noted as high student enrolment, increased workload and inadequate learning resources.en_US
