Since 2003, the Government of Kenya has initiated efforts to improve Public Primary Schools through Free Primary Education Programme. Despite all these efforts, Privately Managed Primary Schools continue to out shine them, this has led to increased migration of pupils from these schools to the privately managed ones. This study focused on investigating the migratory patterns in Chania zone Gatundu North District. The study was be based on the following objectives (i) To investigate factors that contribute to pupils migration in Chania Zone Gatundu North District. (ii) To identify the migratory patterns in the period between 2005 and 2011. (iii) To examine the effects of migrations. (iv)To assess the effects of migration in both public and privately managed primary schools in the zone. It intended to base its research on Traits, Likert and Fayol’s theories of administration and Hertzbergs motivation theory. The scope of the study comprised of eighteen public primary schools and ten private schools. The study was conducted in Chania zone in Gatundu North District and it was be a survey research. The sample was six public primary schools and two private schools. Piloting was done in one public and one private school two weeks before the main study. These schools were not included in the main study. Primary data was collected by the use of questionnaires, interview schedules, open-ended questions and observation techniques. It was analyzed using descriptive statistics that includes mean, median, mode and frequency distributions to give quantitative results. Data presentation was in form of graphs, tables and charts to enhance better presentation of information. Finally, a summary of the finding conclusion and recommendations was done. The study revealed that there is a major migration of pupils from public to privately managed primary schools in Chania zone. There was evidence that parents preferred to enroll their children in privately managed primary schools due to various factors that included teachers commitment, motivational levels, work coverage discipline school management and child security. The research revealed that these factors lead to better academic performance hence the migration of pupils. The researcher made some recommendation to the ministry of education, amongst them; include institutional management adequate staffing and motivationally strategies to improve the public primary schools education. There was need for more parental involvement and benchmarking in order to learn from better practices.
