dc.description.abstract | Rewarding is one of core element which determine performance of pupils in co-curricular activities. Rewarding motivates learners and energizes them to perform well in co-curricular activities. This study was analyzing the influence of rewarding on the performance of co- curricular activities in Mutomo sub-county, Kitui County. This study was guided by the following objectives; to examine the influence of pupils rewarding on the performance in co- curricular activities in public primary schools in Mutomo sub-county, to assess the influence of teachers rewards on the performance of co-curricular activities in public primary schools in Mutomo sub-county, establish the influence of rewarding styles on the performance in co – curricular activities in public primary schools in Mutomo sub-county and to establish influence of rewarding policy on performance in co-curricular activities in Mutomo sub-county. This study was a descriptive survey employing mixed methods where data was collected from a sample size. The target population for this study was 281 people. Two AEOs, 4 TACs, 1 DEO, 1 DQASO, 27 head teachers, 27 games teachers and 1 KPSSA official made the sample size whose total was 66 respondents. Purposive and random sampling methods were used to select the sample size. The instruments for data collection consisted of a questionnaires and interview schedules. Piloting of the instrument was also carried out using selected sample of 15 respondents who did not form part of the final sample size to test their accuracy and appropriateness as well as improve on clarity and comprehensiveness of instruments. Qualitative data was analyzed as the study progresses by conceptualizing, coding, categorizing data. Quantitative data was coded and entered into the SPSS computer package for analysis. Data was then be tabulated and analyzed using SPSS 22.0 to generate both descriptive and inferential statistics. Data was analysed using multiple linear regression model. The data was presented using frequency tables, bar graphs and pie charts. The study realized that the performance in co- curricular activities was average in most schools in Mutomo Sub County. The study found that there was strong relationship between rewarding and performance of learners in co-curricular activities rated at 74.1%. Pupils and teacher rewarding, rewarding styles and rewarding policy were noted main factor influencing performance in co-curricular activities. The study recommends that each school should develop a clear rewarding policy to guide rewarding of pupils and teachers so as to motivate them to perform well in co-curricular activities. | en |
