dc.description.abstractThe study investigated the effects of management challenges affecting academic performance. The study aimed at establishing the management challenges facing school management, the effects of the management strategies on academic performance and the factors affecting academic performance in Kaptagat division. The study used descriptive and exploratory survey design. Descriptive design was ideal as it enabled an in-depth study of the relevant variables to be made in order to establish existing condition in the schools. The study used 250 respondents from 10 secondary school teachers, head teachers and educational officers. Random sampling was used to categorize respondents. In the study the population strata included 8 public and 2 privet secondary schools. Data was collected using questionnaires and interview schedules. The questionnaire was administered to the school head teachers and the educational officers (frequencies and percentage) Data collected through interview schedule and questionnaires was organized into themes and subthemes as they emerged in an on going process. The researcher used document analysis tool for collecting data. The researcher then used statistics to indicate percentages. SPSS was used for analysis and spearman’s rank was used for correction of the research variable. Validity of research instruments was done by supervisor while to test the responsibility of the instrument the study piloted the study instruments. The research findings will assist policy maker and schools managements to be able to anticipate challenges that occur in the schools. The findings revealed that the main challenge found in the study was lack of professionally teachers, finances and facilities that support the education process in the school. In light of the finding, the research concluded and recommended that school heads should receive the right training on managing and leading schoolsen_US
