dc.description.abstract | This7 study7 assessed0 the0 influence0 of1 job satisfaction7 on7 productivity7 of1 non-teaching7 staff1 in7 public secondary7 schools7 in7 Kisumu County. The0 study7 aimed0 at7 fulfilling7 the0 following7 objectives; to1 establish the influence of work environment on productivity7 of1 non-teaching7 staff, to1 explore on the0 influence0 of1 remuneration7 on7 productivity7 of1 non-teaching7 staff, to1 determine0 the0 influence0 of1 job security7 on7 productivity7 of1 non-teaching7 staff1 and0 to1 investigate the influence of organizational1 commitment on productivity1 of1 non-teaching1 staff1 in7 public secondary7 schools7 in7 Kisumu County. The0 study1 was7 grounded on Frederick Herzberg’s Two1 Factor1 theory1 of1 Motivation7.Mixed0 methods7 approach was employed. Descriptive0 research design was used. Study population7 1 was7 173 public secondary7 schools7 while0 the0 unit1 of1 observation7 was7 1211respondents7 including7 principals, bursars, secretaries, librarians, laboratory7 assistants, security7 officers, cooks, and office0 messengers. The study employed the use of purposive and stratified0 proportionate0 random sampling1 technique. Questionnaires, interview schedules0 and0 0 focus7 group discussion7 were0 used0 to1 collect1 data. Test-retest7 method0 was7 employed0 to1 test7 the0 reliability7 of1 the questionnaire. Data analysis was done using1 statistics7 software0 (SPSS, Version7 27.0). Descriptive0 statistics7 including1 frequencies, percentages, mean7 scores, and0 standard0 deviation7 was7 produced0 for1 all1 the0 quantitative0 data.Qualitative0 data0 from the0 interviews7 was7 analyzed0 using1 thematic content1 analysis7 and0 presented0 in1 narrative0 form. Inferential1 statistics7 was7 done0 using1 the0 multiple0 linear1 regression1.This0 study1 found out0 that1 the0 schools7 provided0 training1 and0 development, and0 senior1 management1 gives7 staff1 a0 clear1 picture0 of1 the0 direction1 in1 which the0 school1 is7 headed0 hence0 motivating1 employees7 to1 work. It1 was7 uncertain1 whether1 the0 employees’ salary1 affects7 the0 way1 they1 perform in the school and the salary paid was similarly equal to level of experience and qualification earned, and the policies on rewards are fair.The0 research found0 that1 every staff member does7 not1 have0 a0 clear1 responsibility1 in1 the0 work place and that1 if1 the0 employees7 got1 another1 offer1 for1 a0 better1 job elsewhere0 they1 would0 not1 feel1 it1 was7 right1 to1 leave the school.All employees also have a say when it comes to job planning and executing and the school gives long term contracts to employees. The study also found that there are frequent job rotations in the work place, the school respects independence, as far as task completion is concerned, and the turnover rate significantly affects productivity.Findings7 of1 this7 study will be beneficial1 to1 secondary1 school 1management in the identification and implementation of 1 better1 systems7 aimed at7 maintaining1 high productivity, as7 well1 as making efforts in improving productivity1 in7 pschools7 where0 non-teaching1 staff1 work efficiency1 might be0 significantly1 low.The0 study1 concluded0 that1 job security had the greatest1 influence0 on1 productivity1 of1 non-teaching staff, followed0 by1 organizational1 commitment, then1 work environment1 while0 remuneration1 had0 the0 least1 influence0 on1 productivity1 of1 non-teaching1 staff1 in1 public secondary1 schools7 in1 Kisumu County.This study recommends7 that1 the0 management1 of1 the0 schools7 in1 Kisumu County1 should0 put1 in1 place0 clear1 structures7 on1 remuneration,improve working environments,enhance job security and foster organizational commitment inorder to promote workplace productivity. | |
