Resource management strategies in relation to learners performance in national examinations in public primary schools of Makindu District, Makueni County.

The study sought to find the resource management strategies in relation to learners’ performance in national examination in Public Primary Schools of Makindu District in Makueni County, Kenya. The purpose was to find out the recourse management strategies in relation to learners’ performance. The objectives of the study; were to analyze the physical and human resource management strategies that enhances learners performance in primary schools; to analyze the relationship between recourse management and learners performance. The study was based on PM Hut theory (2007) on Project Management: effectiveness and Assessment. The researcher adopted a descriptive survey design in Makindu District, Makueni County. The population of the study was 2120 comprising of 60 head teachers 60 chair persons of Board of Management (BOM) and 2000 teachers. Sample size was included 25 (42%) head teachers 200 (10%) teachers and 25(42%) chairpersons making a total of 250 respondents; who were selected using purposive technique. The schools selected to participate had done KCPE for the last 3 years consecutively. The researcher used interview schedules and questionnaires for data collection. The content validity of the instruments was determined by discussing the items in the instruments with experts from University supervisors and colleagues. The reliability of the instruments used in the study was done by piloting in two public primary schools and correlation co-efficiency of 0.7 was obtained. Data collected was cleaned, coded, and analyzed by use of descriptive statistical facilitated by statistical package for social science (SPSS) version 17. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to test the hypotheses as it provides a statistical test of whether or not the means of several groups are all equal. Qualitative data was used to support the correlation data and establish the relationship between resource management strategies and learners’ academic performance. The researcher requested for permission from the county education officer to carry out the research. The study found that resource management strategies were available in most schools and the effectiveness of resource management strategies had a significant relation to learners’ performance in national examination. The researcher recommended that schools managers should not ignore teachers and learners participation in their school management strategies. They should be involved in decision making.
