Contribution of modes of communication used by head teachers on management of public primary schools in Gatanga district Murang’a county,Kenya.
In a survey of communication concerning institutional restructuring, many institutions do not pay attention to communication when planning and implementing change. Head teachers are central in successful management of schools and implementation of education programmes. Communication is key in smooth running of different organization. It is clear that head teacher can not manage the school effectively without proper communication with all stake holders since each has a role to play towards the success of the school. If there is no proper communication between teachers, head teachers and pupils, the school programmes will automatically fail leading to poor management of the school. The purpose of this study was to explore the contribution of modes of communication used by head teachers in management of public primary schools in Gatanga District Murang’a Count. The study employed descriptive research design in collecting information. The study was carried out in Gatanga District Murang’a Count because many teachers feel that they are not fully informed about management plans, institution activities and goals. This may lead to poor management and even disagreement between the head teacher, pupils and teachers and hence the need for this study. Gatanga District is one of the eight Districts in Muranga County and is a constituency. There are three large education zone in the District which are Kihumbu-ini, Gatanga and Kariara zones. Random sampling procedure was used in this study. The sample was six head teachers, nine teachers and two eighty five pupils. Questionnaire was used to collect data for this study. SPSS computer programme was used to analyze the data generated from the study. The questionnaires were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. From the studies carried out by other scholars, gaps were revealed concerning the contribution of modes of communication used by Head teachers in management of public primary schools in Gatanga District Murang’a County Kenya. From the findings teachers , pupils and the head teachers must have smooth communication for proper management of the school. The teachers, head teachers and pupils must work together in order to achieve the educational goals. The study revealed that communication is a process and therefore for effective management of schools different modes of communication must be used. Oral mode of communication and written are popularly used in communication. The head teachers should therefore use the most effective modes of communication so that the schools can run well and hence achieve its objectives fully.
