    Abstract
    This study entitled “ECODI Water pipeline projects and Socio-economic development of local community of Rwanda, A Case study of Gishyuhira-Nyarukore-Muramba project in Ngororero District” is about the project of water pipeline carried out in Ngororero district. It had the purpose of identifying the effects of water pipeline projects on socio-economic development of Rwanda and seeks to achieve the following objectives. To identify the activities undertaken by ECODI water pipeline project in Ngororero district; to compare the living conditions of the population before and after its implementation; and to assess the contribution of water pipeline projects to socio-economic development of the local communities. This study also has significance since it is expected to increase the knowledge and up to date information and serving as a working document to policy makers in the water based projects sector. To set out the findings, this study set questionnaire as well as an interview guide to administer to households as sample. Data obtained were coded and analysed. After analysis, the results were presented in tables, graphs and then interpreted. The research questions were responded and objectives of research were achieved. Summary of findings, conclusion and recommendations were drawn from analysis of indicators of ECODI water pipeline project. These are: water infrastructures development, improved agriculture, improving health by increasing the number of people using clean and safe water. Further, the findings have helped to conclude that ECODI water pipeline has positively impacted on socio-economic development of local community of Rwanda. As recommendations, this study urges the government authorities and project planners to involve water users and other stakeholders in making all decision related to water resources managements and allocation. Recommendations are also addressed to water projects sponsors and district authorities to extend these kinds of water infrastructures in poorest rural areas.
